One of the few Mexican players who plays at the highest level in Europe is Santiago Giménez. The AC Milan striker has played 11 matches so far this season.

AC Milan has not had a full squad this season so far, and Giménez has been the starting striker for the team. The Mexican star has struggled this season and has no goals in the Serie A after nine matches played.

His last performance was against Atalanta last week, where he played 62 minutes. He missed the match against Roma over the weekend due to his ankle injury, and Giménez confirmed that he has been suffering from an injury for a while.

On X, Giménez published a statement about his latest injury and will miss the next few weeks for AC Milan. In his statement, Giménez announced that he has not been 100% fit during games for AC Milan and the Mexican National Team over the past few months.

"For several months, I've been playing with an ankle injury that hasn't allowed me to be at 100%, or feel comfortable on the pitch. Eager to continue helping the team, I kept playing, but the pain increased and it was time to stop. Now it's time to recover and prepare to be with you as soon as possible. God is in control. Thank you for your support, see you soon."

Why Giménez could miss the rest of 2025

With Giménez confirming his ankle injury, AC Milan has yet to give an approximate date when the Mexican striker will return.

According to León Lecanda of ESPN, Giménez is expected to be out for at least five weeks. That rules him out for the Mexico friendly matches in November against Uruguay and Paraguay.

Giménez would be out for the rest of November and for the majority of December. Milan has five games in December, and there could be a chance for the Mexican striker to play in the Supercoppa in Saudi Arabia.

AC Milan plays against Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal on December 18, 2025. All will depend on how Giménez recovers, but he is reportedly set to be out for the rest of the year.
