Santiago Giménez arrived at AC Milan in February this year with high expectations. The Mexican striker signed a four-year contract with AC Milan, but he could potentially be on his way out, according to AC Milan director Igli Tare.
Before the Lecce vs AC Milan match in the second match week of the Serie A, Tare was asked about transfer news regarding the team. He was asked about incomings and departures.
One of the questions was regarding the striker position, as the club has been monitoring many strikers in Europe. One of the strikers that AC Milan is linked to is AS Roma striker Artem Dovbyk.
The Ukrainian striker does not appear in Roma's plans for the new season, and AC Milan are interested, but it could be at the cost of their current striker. Tare revealed that the club is evaluating a potential swap deal with Roma, which involves Giménez and Dovbyk.
"We are evaluating a swap between Dovbyk and Santi Gimenez, let’s see after the match. If possible, we will go ahead with the swap… otherwise, we will stay with the current team."AC Milan Director Igli Tare

Santiago Giménez with AC Milan in the 2025-26 season
The new season has just started, and Giménez has been involved with the AC Milan team under Massimiliano Allegri. Giménez played in two preseason games with Milan this summer and scored one goal.
He scored against Leeds United in a 1-1 draw. He provided an assist for Christian Pulisic in the 2-0 win over Bari in the Coppa Italia on August 17. Giménez played the full match against AC Milan's 2-1 defeat to Cremonese in their Serie A opener.
Giménez started against Lecce after Tare mentioned that the club will consider swapping the Mexican striker for Dovbyk in the next few days.
Giménez scored against Lecce in the second half and dedicated his goal to his teammate Ardon Jashari, whom he had collided with in training and leading to the midfielder's injury. The goal was disallowed for offside.
