Gilberto Mora had already been making headlines, becoming one of the youngest goalscorers in Liga MX history, but it was during the Gold Cup, thanks to Javier Aguirre’s trust and the unfortunate injury to Luis Chávez, that the young player from Tijuana seized his moment.
Mora became the youngest player to win a FIFA tournament final at just 16 years and 265 days, surpassing legends like Pelé (17 years, 249 days in the 1958 World Cup) and phenomenon Lamine Yamal (16 years, 338 days in Euro 2024).
