Toluca have ended a 15 year wait to win their first Liga MX title since 2010.
The moment came as Los Diablos Rojos defeated a Club América side chasing a fourth-straight piece of silverware with a two-nil victory at the Estadio Nemesio Diez.
Following a goalless draw in the capital, the opening goal of the tie came after two hours of play when Luan Garcia's bullet header gave Luís Malagón no chance.
By winning the regular season, Garcia's goal gave Toluca an extra cushion who could only miss out on the title with a defeat on the night.
All hopes of an América revival was ended when the man of the moment, Alexis Vega, added his name to the scoresheet with a comfortable penalty to beat Malagón in the dying moments of the game.
As expected, the Nemesio Diez erupted as Toluca ended a streak of 15 years without a league success and brought a run of three finals defeats to an end.
Triumph for Toluca means that Antonio Mohamed becomes the first manager in Liga MX history to win a title with four different teams after leading Monterrey and Club América to the top step of the podium and having handed Tijuana with their first and only trophy back in 2012.
Club América will get an early chance of redemption when they meet the Clausura champions in the Campeón de Campeones, but their immediate focus will turn to next weekend when they face LAFC for a place in this summer's FIFA Club World Cup.
