Is coffee considered a performance-enhancing drug?  It would explain a lot in regards to the performance of the Cafetaleros de Tapachula (The Coffee Cultivators).  If they played without the bitter nectar of life, then I wouldn’t have questions about their 4-1 loss against Leon.  It was a complete drumming, but at least they managed to score one point.  That should be enough to earn a post-game espresso.

Leon went up at the 26 minute mark with a shot from Elias Hernandez, who made a weak defense pay for their miscalculations.  It was another mistake from the defense that led to the second score of the night at minute 47.  Cafetalero defense felt comfortable walking the ball to the goalie, but the Argentine, Mauro Boselli took advantage and stripped the ball from two grown men for the easy shot.

Then the 58th minute came, with it Landon Donovan:

Landon was on the bench for the first half while his team warmed up the field for him.  having made his debut for Leon against Puebla but not making a score, Donavan came in wanting to make his own mark in the match, but it wasn’t to be.  He did manage to scare Tapachula with this beauty of a shot:

The Cafetaleros weren’t to be totally embarrassed thanks to a stunner from Yoel Barcenas at the 66th minute.

Some celebrations aren’t meant to last a long time, however, as just 4 minutes later Ivan Piris extended the Leon lead yet again.  Maximiliano Cerrato put another cherry on the cake 5 minutes after that.

The win leaves Leon sitting on top of group 1, with the Cafetaleros at 2. Check out all the highlights in the video below:
