Three months ago, Chivas and Oswaldo Alanis split over a contract dispute. Today, Chivas’ Twitter account issued a video telling the center back, “Chivas is your home and the doors are open.”
It’s the latest twist in the saga that began at the end of Apertura 2017. After refusing to sign a contract extension, Alanis was relegated to the Chivas third-division side. To his credit, Alanis continued to show up to training with the lower squad, gaining support from Mexican international teammates and the Mexican footballers association.

"“It’s an institutional posture, nothing personal,” Chivas CEO Jose Luis Higuera said in an interview with Marca Claro. “We’ve treated him with great respect, but he decided not to renew with us. He asked for something that was too much.”"
The player’s contract ran out following the 2018 Clausura, where Alanis was able to come back and help Chivas to the CONCACAF Champions League title. He signed with Spanish club Getafe in July, but the sporting director that signed him has sign been relieved of his duties. Getafe’s coach seems to not have wanted him, though, and so he and the new sporting director are hoping to help him find a different club.
Chivas has struggled mightily in the back and would love to have the 29-year-old’s services in front of their goaltender. That they have made their desire so public is interesting, to say the least.
