Liga MX: VLMX Jornada 10 Predictions
Jornada 10 gets underway tonight. We’ve noted the futility of trying to predict Liga MX, but lets keep trying.
It’s coming in a bit later than normal, but rest assured, we haven’t forgotten. Up to now, I’ve been without much success with my Liga MX predictions. I did manage to pick Necaxa’s upset victory over Cruz Azul last week, but I know that was more luck than skill. Practice makes perfect, they say. So here goes with my Jornada 10 selections.
Monarcas – Pumas
Monarcas have struggled over their last few matches. Draws against Pachuca and then away to Monterrey didn’t look to shabby until the 4-1 beat down they received from Queretaro. That was a home match, no less. Now they have to face the 2nd place Pumas without defender Sebastian Vegas or midfielder Rodrigo Millar after their late red cards last week against Club America. Monarcas have conceded the most goals in the league and now face the top scoring team without two key defensive pieces.
Monarcas 1 – Pumas 3
Puebla – America
Puebla hosts America with both teams in good form. That means more to Puebla, though, as they’ll need to find another level against America to get a result. Fortunately for them, America has been a bit more vulnerable on the road than at home. Diego Lainez, Mateus Uribe, and Roger Martinez provide offensive threats Puebla hasn’t faced much this year, however. Throw in Renato Ibarra and a resurgent Oribe Peralta and Puebla will want to hang on for dear life.
Puebla 0 – America 2
Toluca – Necaxa
Toluca continues their climb out of the hole they put themselves in to begin the Apertura, despite struggling a bit with lowly Veracruz. Necaxa will be feeling good from their upset win over Cruz Azul, but they’ve lost any element of surprise. Toluca is the better side and should carry on with their march up the Liga MX table.
Toluca 3 – Necaxa 1
Leon – Lobos
Leon will be glad to be back home and playing Lobos this week. Lobos is just a bad team and I really don’t know what else to say about them or this match. Don’t lose, Leon, you will lose any encouraging thoughts I’ve had about you.
Leon 2 – Lobos 0
Cruz Azul – Atlas
Cruz Azul had their letdown match. Atlas is not going to sneak this one out.
Cruz Azul 2 – Atlas 0
Xolos – Pachuca
Xolos are just going to sit back like they have been and try to squeeze out a 1-0 win or 1-1 draw. They’d be happy with a 0-0 draw, in all honesty. They just don’t have the creativity and offensive punch to really take on this Pachuca side that suddenly looks like a Liguilla team. Not to mention, Los Tuzos have conceded less goals than anyone not named Cruz Azul. Not looking good for Club Tijuana.
Xolos 0 – Pachuca 1

Chivas – Queretaro
Guadalajara is flying high after an impressive victory against Los Rayados. Chivas showed fight and some skill in coming from behind to secure the three points. Queretaro offers a stiff defensive challenge, however, having only conceded 9 goals on the season. If Chivas can shut down Camilo Sanvezzo, though, they should be in good shape to overtake Queretaro in the table.
Chivas 1 – Queretaro 0
Santos – Veracruz
Go check out my preview of the match for my complete thoughts, but this shouldn’t be close. Veracruz is just good enough to be able to do some damage if an opponent doesn’t take them seriously, but based on the comments coming from Santos Laguna pressers, I can’t see Los Guerreros getting caught napping.
Santos 3 – Veracruz 0
Tigres – Monterrey
Another matchup you can find more detailed thoughts on elsewhere. Tigres has been not great but not bad, Monterrey has been good and then bad and then okay. Both teams should be a lot better and my hope is we’ll see them come to life in this Clasico.
Tigres 3 – Monterrey 3
