Founded in 1916 and now 102 years old, Club America has established themselves as one of the winning-est and top club of Mexico.

Club America is marking their 102nd year of existence and has not disappointed as a top club. America is tied with Chivas for the most titles in Liga MX history. They hold the record for the most championships, five Copa México titles, and five Campeón de Campeones cups. In international competitions, América has ten FIFA-recognized club trophies, the most for a club from the CONCACAF region. Also America has won a record seven CONCACAF Champions Cup/Champions League titles, two Copa Interamericana cups and one CONCACAF Giants Cup.

Needless to say, America wins a lot of championships and that success has generated a lot of recognition around the world. America’s recognition is up there with the likes of the New York Yankees (Baseball), Dallas Cowboys (Football), Los Angeles Lakers (Basketball) and top European clubs like FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid. The moment someone looks at the yellow logo, they know it stands for America. When America plays friendlies on foreign soils, the crowd of America fans follow them wherever they go. In the United States, America tends to sell out and fill the stadiums with fans coming in from all over the country just to witness them play. Their brand has expanded and become one of the biggest iconic clubs in the North American region and possibly in the Americas.

Club America isn’t only good at building championship teams, however. They also are well-known for developing young and exciting Mexican players. In this past World Cup, alone, there were six former and current Club America players. Throughout the years, we have seen an endless amount of great Mexican players come up with America. From Luis Alberto Alvez to Cuahtemoc Blanco and now Diego Lainez,  America has always left a mark on the National Mexican team by bringing in and developing some of the best players Mexican soccer has ever seen.

Now 102 years old, expectations have always been set high for Club America. Anything less than a Championship is considered a failure and the seat is always hot for the club manager. While they currently sit in the number two spot and only two points behind the leader Cruz Azul, America looks pretty comfortable to make another Liguilla trip in this Apertura. Although America has not looked 100% at all this season, they have found ways to pull out victories and grind it out in the end.

Club America has not won a championship since the 2014 Apertura. While that may only be four years ago, for a club like America, four years is quite long enough to go without winning a championship.

The current squad has all the tools and talent to make a deep run in the playoffs and into the championship, even if they haven’t looked 100%. You can never count them out because they will fight until the end and they have a great coach in Piojo Herrera demanding and squeezing every bit out of the players.

102 years of rich history filled with plenty of winning. Look for this squad to leave it all out there and to regain the lead in titles as they fight to get the 13th championship in team history. America will always be one of the most loved and hated clubs in Mexico and around the world, but when you’ve been around for 102 years, what else would you expect? America y ya!
