Liga MX: Chivas last opportunity to keep hope alive against Leon
Chivas face off with Leon just trying to salvage a decent ending to a disappointing Liga MX Apertura for both sides.
What a turn of events for Chivas in the Apertura 2018! A roller coaster ride of emotions for many of their fans, yet, they will visit Leon this Saturday night to keep their tiny hope alive for a reserved place in the Liguilla.
The Liguilla dreams for both Chivas (12th) and Leon (13th) are appearing very slim due to their total of 17 points in the table of the Liga MX, both teams need to win their remaining matches in the Apertura 2018 but realistically neither team appears in great form to advance to the Liguilla. A loss on Saturday will definitely cancel any plans for either team in the Liguilla and that’s why, yet again, this match could be explosive.
Chivas, arguably, has performed better when they are playing on the visiting side. They have seven games consecutively without a loss on the road with a total of three wins and four ties throughout the Apertura 2018. With these numbers, they could be favored to win at Leon’s home turf. But, what does Chivas need to do to qualify to the Liguilla? Besides a miracle, lets look at the possibilities; Pachuca, Monarcas, Queretaro need to lose their next two matches remaining and hope that Puebla does not add more than three points in their next two games as well.
Easy right?

Leon: D v Atlas 1-1
Leon wasted a big opportunity and had to settle with a draw when they visited Atlas at home playing against 10 men in the second half of the match. Despite being a close game for both teams, Leon appeared distraught throughout the match, while Atlas defended well and did not grant a goal for Leon in the last few minutes of the game as Leon applied furious pressure.
Chivas: D v Puebla 2-2
The night started of quiet for Chivas and they went into the half with a two goal lead, but the second half appeared that Chivas was on cruise control. Chivas, as in previous matches in the Apertura 2018, had a lead but ended in a loss or a draw. This time it ended up with a draw. Puebla came back and scored two goals against a weak defensive team that played with only 10 men. Yet again, the margin could have been higher, but Gudiño’s performance kept the game leveled. Things went from bad to worst for Chivas in this game, losing a player in the second half and giving up two goals to lose their lead.
Prediction
Chivas will win a 2-0 versus Leon at home. Chivas plays different and appears more comfortable and threatening when they are on the road. Chivas have their backs against the wall. They desperately need a win and this game could offer them that opportunity.
