Liga MX: Tijuana visit Puebla hoping to end season on a high
Neither team has a shot at Liguilla, but can end the Liga MX Apertura feeling better about themselves.
After what has felt like a long international break, Liga MX returns this weekend for the final round of matches before La Liguilla. Matchday 17 will see Puebla play host to Club Tijuana at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in a game that means very little for either team except to finish the season on a high.
The only thing riding on the game is position in the table as Puebla currently sit 12th but, even with a win, will be unable to reach the playoffs and could fall as low as 15th with unfavorable results. On the other hand, Tijuana are already way down in 15th but could drop to 16th if Necaxa win and they fail to pick up a point.
Club Tijuana haven’t picked up a win in Liga MX since Matchday 10 and have only managed 5 goals in the last six games. However, Xolos fans will take some solace in the fact that, although versatile with their formations, Puebla don’t tend to utilize the 4-4-2 which has caused Tijuana so many problems in recent weeks. It’s difficult to predict how the home side will line up as they’ve used three different formations in the last three games. However, it’s likely to be a variation of the 4-2-3-1 with lone striker Lucas Cavallini leading the line.
Cavallini has picked up six goals already this term and will be looking to increase his tally against a Xolos defence that has let in 1 goals in their last five games. Puebla on the other hand haven’t been secure either and have conceded 12 in their last three including a heavy 6-1 loss away to Tigres.

With both teams leaky at the back and with nothing to lose, this is shaping up to be a mouth-watering tie with plenty of action on both ends of the field. Now I’ve said that it’s definitely going to be a slow one… I’m predicting Puebla 1 – 1 Club Tijuana.
