Club America places its 23-game unbeaten streak on the line when it takes on Monterrey in a game that promises to be a classic.

Monterrey emerged winners against Queretaro after new signing Maxi Meza’s 91st golazo, however they will undoubtedly face a whole different level of opposition in Club America.

Despite the high-profile sale of Mexican youngster Diego Lainez to La Liga side Real Betis earlier this month, Club America remains unbeaten in the Clausura after an impressive opening two games.

This will be Monterrey’s biggest test of the season so far and one of the biggest challenges they will face all season. After a sporadic start, which saw them destroy Pachuca but fail to win against Leon, Monterrey will surely wish to find some much-needed consistency as soon as possible.

Previous game

Queretaro 1, Monterrey 2

Monterrey only managed to beat Queretaro in the dying minutes when their star signing Maxi Meza rocketed a golazo in the 91st minute. The inconsistency and the failure to confidently see out games so far this season will likely see them flounder against a strong Club America side who remain unbeaten in two games.

America 3, Pachuca 0

The Aguilas comfortably dispatched an increasingly poor Pachuca side and will be coming into this game with an abundance of confidence and form. America got goals from three different players and Henry Martín has become a consistent scorer.

Key Players

Monterrey: Maxi Meza was the star performer for Monterrey last week in his official debut for the club and will likely play an equally important role in this upcoming game.

America: Henry Martin has scored in both Clausura games and is in the form America expected when they signed him. The transfers America has made will mean more playing time and reliance on Martin for goals. It is beginning to look as if he can become a main player for the club. Monterrey suffered defensive frailties this season and Martin will be difficult for them to handle.

Prediction

This game is difficult to predict but it is equally difficult to imagine anything other than an America win. Monterrey have been woeful at the back recently whereas America have been scoring for fun.

I see plenty of goals and expect that both Henry Martin and Maxi Meza get on the scoresheet.

Monterrey 2, America 3
