The Chivas are stuck in mediocrity and they need to clean house. Here’s a couple names that could look good in red-and-white stripes.
The Chivas missed the playoffs for the fourth season in a row so there could be some familiar names sent packing and some new faces brought in. Guadalajara is in a rebuilding stage and management needs to move beyond loyalty and think about the future … and avoiding relegation.
One likely departure is 32-year-old defender Jair Pereira who is probably counting his final days in the Tomas Boy era. The captain has been injury prone the past few seasons and his lack of speed is a concern. The Chivas must find someone to pair up with Hiram Mier.
One ideal player could be 25-year-old Antonio Briseño who plays for Feirense in Portugal. Briseño played 33 games with Feirense mostly as a starter. He scored two crucial goals and piled up more than 3,000 minutes. Briseño was the captain of Mexico’s Under-17 World Cup-winning team. He could be the perfect candidate to fill Pereira’s shoes.

After being eliminated from the Liguilla over the weekend, Pachuca midfielder Erick Aguirre told reporters that if the Chivas were to call him “it would be hard to say no.” This has led to speculation that coach Boy wants Aguirre (pictured at top, in a game against the Chivas), who debuted with Morelia at age 17. Pachuca acquired Aguirre, 22, in the summer of 2016 and he has been a big contributor since. He is a versatile player who could play at right back or in midfield.
The Chivas gave up 21 goals in the Clausura 2019 and finished 14th in the table. One of the main reasons was the lack of pressure by the defense. Then again, the Chivas only scored 16 goals. These two new faces could help them avoid relegation concerns in the Apertura 2019 and Clausura 2020.
