The Gallos Blancos-Pumas game could be viewed as a chess match pitting Queretaro’s offense against the Pumas’ league-best defense.

Queretaro is coming off a 2-0 win at Atletico de San Luis that was called off in minute 85 due to frightful violence in the stands.

The result has Queretaro in 3rd place with 7 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses, good for 24 points. Los Gallos Blancos continue to be one of the pleasant surprises of the Apertura 2019, as coach Victor Manuel Vucetich has managed his modest roster into a legitimate playoff team.

The Queretaro front office used their social media accounts to explain the security precautions they are taking ahead of Saturday’s match against the Pumas. The fan clubs for both teams are among the toughest and wildest in the Liga MX and the Gallos Blancos don’t want a repeat of what happened in San Luis.

Pumas are coming off a disappointing 2-1 home loss to Leon, as Michel Gonzalez’s team failed to protect a 1-0 lead before the half. The setback dropped them out of the playoff zone, down to 10th place but only 1 point behind 8th-place Morelia. The Pumas are only 5-3-5, but their 12 goals allowed is tied for fewest in the league.

The trip to Queretaro on Saturday is the toughest game remaining on the Pumas schedule, so they would like nothing more than to come home with points so as to stay in the middle of the fight for a playoff spot.

Off the field, UNAM has a bit of a gray cloud over them as team president Rodrigo Ares de Parga announced he is quitting his post at the end of the season. The controversial and unpopular Ares de Parga is allegedly being investigated on charges of illicit enrichment and money laundering.
