Gonzalo Pineda has been released from his duties after Atlas suffer a fifth straight defeat in all competitions.

The season got underway perfectly for Los Rojinegros, who defeated Puebla before earning a point against last season's best regular season side, Cruz Azul, but things went downhill from there.

Atlas' bleak run of form started in Monterrey as Los Rayados cruised to a 3-1 victory before heading Stateside for a progressively worse campaign in the Leagues Cup. Atlas may have scored in all of their three matches, but managed to lose every time whilst conceding a goal more in each game, ending with an abysmal 4-1 loss to Atlanta United.

The club returned to Liga MX duties this past weekend, hoping to put their poor form behind them, but faced a high-flying Pachuca side, which became one of the four Mexican teams to reach the knockout rounds of the Leagues Cup. Facing Los Tuzos, Pineda's men were subject to a 3-0 loss at the Estadio Jalisco.

Leaking seven goals in two games appeared to be the limit for the higher-ups at Atlas, who, within hours of the Pachuca defeat, decided to call time on Pineda's spell at the club.

Having joined Atlas for the start of the 2025 Clausura, Gonzalo Pineda took charge of 24 matches with the club, winning five, drawing seven as the Pachuca loss took the total up to 11.

A successor has yet to be announced but in the last moments, César Luis Merlo has reported that negotiations are underway with Diego Cocca, who guided the club to its first league title in 70 years back in 2021.
