An ongoing transfer saga has involved Pumas in their search for a new goalkeeper, but news has broken that the club are set to announce Keylor Navas as their latest summer signing.
The club have been in the market for a new shot-stopper following the exit of Julio González and Alex Padilla, with the latter returning to his parent club Athletic Bilbao.
As Pumas sought to find a new number one, they gave 17-year-old Rodrigo Parra his professional debut, becoming the youngest goalkeeper in Liga MX history. However, the club finds itself bottom of the league after two league games, conceding six goals against Santos Laguna and Pachuca.
Behind the scenes, negotiations with Newell's Old Boys stalled with the Argentine side demanding $3 million for Keylor Navas to leave the club.
Pumas' alternative choice was the former Wolves and AS Roma goalkeeper, Rui Patricio, with the news that the Portuguese international was 'set' for a move to Mexico, but it seems that the deal has taken a step back in light of recent developments involving Keylor Navas.
Navas to Pumas deal
Reports from GOAL indicate that the two sides have agreed on a deal for $1.6 million, almost half of the initial asking price.
Prior negotiations failed after Pumas had a $1 million offer rejected, but the all-time leading Costa Rica appearance-maker continued to express his desire to leave Argentina for Mexico.
The same report suggests that the former Real Madrid and PSG goalkeeper will travel to Mexico City on Tuesday and will be eligible to make his Liga MX debut this weekend as Pumas travel to face Querétaro on matchday three of the Apertura.
If the Navas deal gets over the line, he will join Aaron Ramsey, Álvaro Angulo and Pedro Pite, with the club seemingly not done in the market, continuing its search for a striker.
