Matchday two is in the history books with the Apertura table widely spread.

Only two sides maintain maximum points after the opening rounds, whilst three teams suffer at the bottom end of the table, losing both their matches to start the new season.

Toluca and Club América met in the Campéon de Campeones final this weekend, so their second round of league matches took place during the week as Los Rojos Diablos travelled to Santos Laguna; as for Las Águilas, they played host to Tijuana.

This is how the second round of fixtures unfolded:

Wednesday 16 July 2025

Club América 3-1 Tijuana

André Jardine's men managed to bounce back from an opening day draw against Juárez as Brian Rodríguez broke the deadlock. Rodrigo Aguirre later restored their lead following Ramiro Arciga's leveller for Tijuana, but all three points were made certain for Las Águilas when Rodríguez netted his second of the game.

Santos Laguna 2-4 Toluca

Toluca continued its 100% record to start the season by putting four past a Santos Laguna side flying after getting the better of Pumas in their first game of the Apertura. A game which ended comfortably for the reigning Liga MX champions, but they had to come from behind when Ramiro Sordo and Jesús Ocejo put the hosts two to the good.

A red card to Ocejo turned the game on its head as Helinho and Robert Morales both bagged a brace to keep Antonio Mohamed's side at the top.

Friday 18 July 2025

Necaxa 3-1 Querétaro

Necaxa secured a first win under new manager Fernando Gago as Johan Rojas and Agustin Palavecino doubled Los Rayos' lead before Jonathan Perlaza gave the visitors a chance. However, any chance of a comeback was squashed in the second half when Pavel Perez opened his account for the season.

San Luis 0-1 Monterrey

Doménec Torrent returned to the club he left to join Monterrey as Los Rayados picked up a first win of the season. German Berterame's clever finish before half time was the difference between these two as Monterrey sought to put their opening day 3-0 loss to Pachuca behind them.

Mazatlán 2-1 Puebla

Mazatlán managed to hold Cruz Azul on their first outing of the season and backed it up with a narrow win against Puebla as Alberto Herrera and Jordan Sierra put the goal out of reach for a side that has recorded two losses to start the campaign.

Saturday 19 July 2025

Léon 1-0 Chivas

Léon picked up a first win of the season as James Rodríguez's spotkick was enough to see off the challenge of a Chivas side making their first appearance of the Apertura.

Tigres 1-0 Juárez

All eyes were on new signing Ángel Correa at the Estadio Universitario as the World Cup winner made his debut following his departure from Atlético Madrid. The Argentine will be pleased with his first outing, as Ozziel Herrera’s second-half strike proved enough to secure a narrow victory.

Atlas 3-3 Cruz Azul

The game of the week came at the Estadio Jalisco with La Máquina closing a two goal deficit to take a point back to the capital. Goals from Eduardo Aguirre and Diego González gave Atlas an impressive lead but Angel Sepúlveda was on hand to crush any hopes of an impressive win for the home side, netting a hattrick to spare the blushes of new manager Nicolas Larcámon.

Sunday 20 July 2025

Pumas 2-3 Pachuca

Pumas suffered a second straight loss despite taking the lead against Pachuca through debutant Álvaro Angulo. Los Tuzos quickly responded, applying pressure on Rodrigo Parra to force another mistake from the 17-year-old goalkeeper, who made a similar fatal error during Pumas' opening day loss to Santos Laguna.

Los Universitarios restored the lead after a perfectly weighted ball from Adalberto Carrasquilla assisted Jorge Ruvalcaba, but Pachuca's marquee signing Jhonder Cadíz was on hand to bring Pachuca level three minutes later with a bullet header.

The game was turned on its head halfway through the second half as Gaston Togni had time to dispatch beyond Parra, who looks to have played his final minutes for the Liga MX campaign.
