Liga MX matchday 3 brought all of the drama. Two games witnessed seven goals whilst Chivas almost blew a two goal lead to San Luis and Tigres stunned the reigning champions.

In the capital, there was a clash of titans as Cruz Azul hosted León, and there was a legendary debut being made at the Estadio Corregidora as Keylor Navas put on the Pumas gloves for the very first time following his stunning arrival from Newell's Old Boys.

This is all that went down in the Liga MX Apertura, Matchday 3:

Friday 25th July 2025

Puebla 1-0 Santos Laguna

Puebla got their first three points of the season to open the round of games as Ricardo Martin scored the only goal of the game with ten minutes left in the game. Santos Laguna suffered a second straight defeat after opening the campaign with an impressive win over Pumas.

Querétaro 0-2 Pumas

Pumas also got their first win of the season. Conceding six goals in two games, Los Univerisitarios welcomed the debut of Keylor Navas, replacing 17-year-old Rodrigo Parra in a game where Guillermo Martínez got the first goal of the game before Jorge Ruvalcaba built on his game against Pachuca to double the visitors' lead. The only downside for Efraín Juárez's side was that summer signing Álvaro Angulo received a straight red card late in the game.

Tijuana 1-1 Juárez

Los Xolos and Los Bravos settled for a point as second half goals decided the game. The hosts took the lead when Jesús Murillo hit into his own net as Angel Zaldivar scored his first goal of the season to salvage a point in a battle of the north.

Saturday 26th July 2025

Pachuca 1-0 Mazatlán

Pachuca became the only side to maintain a winning start to season by making it three wins from three against Mazatlán. However, Los Tuzos left it late to make it count as Luis Quinones made the difference with an 88th minute strike to seal the win for Jaime Lozano's side.

Chivas 4-3 San Luis

Chivas and San Luis fought until the death in a seven-goal thriller. Not many would have expected this outcome at the start as Chivas ran into an early two goal lead, but the visitors regrouped and responded in the second half, going from two goals down to remarkably taking the lead with 15 minutes left in the game.

Fighting from behind, Chivas dug in and relied on Armando González to strike twice in the last ten minutes to win the game for Los Rojiblancos, including a last minute winner.

Cruz Azul 4-1 León

La Máquina recorded a first win under new manager Nicolas Larcámon as all five goals in the match came in the final 25 minutes of the game. The pick of the bunch came as Angel Sepulveda added to his hat-trick last weekend against Atlas with a stunning overhead kick, leaving Oscar Garcia rooted to his spot.

Monterrey 3-1 Atlas

Los Rayados came from behind to beat Atlas as German Berterame netted a hat-trick of his own. The first of which came as the forward was first to respond to Sergio Canales' missed penalty to convert before scoring two goals in the dying moments of the game to make it two wins from two for Doménec Torrent's men.

Toluca 3-4 Tigres

The game of the week came at the Estadio Nemesio Díez as the reignign champions were left stunned by Tigres.

Los Rojos Diablos took the lead through Paulinho but the rest of the half went against the script as the visitors went into the break with a 3-1 lead as Jonathan Herrera and and Nicolás Ibanez built on an own goal from Federico Perreira which levelled the two sides ten minutes after Toluca took the lead.

Tigres strengthened their lead in the second half as Ibanez made it four for Tigres, but the hosts made a last-ditch attempt to earn a point as Jesús Gallardo and Marcel Ruiz made it a tense ending. Nonetheless, Guido Pizarro's side had enough to hold onto a statement win.
