Liga MX Apertura's final regular season matchday took place this weekend as we saw a host of teams involved in the final day chaos.

There were four teams competing for the top spot as Chivas and Juárez took it to the final day to decide who would be the final team to earn an automatic spot in the next round whilst four teams still had a chance of ending Pumas' season early by taking the tenth spot.

This is how Liga MX Apertura, matchday 17 went down:

Friday 7th November 2025

Juárez 1-2 Querétaro

Juárez's efforts of overtaking Chivas into sixth place crashed before it could even gain momentum as Los Bravos leaked two early goals, handing Querétaro an unlikely shot of reaching the play-in, briefly overtaking Pumas.

Mazatlán 1-1 Necaxa

Necaxa were another team eyeing up the final spot in the play-in, but saw their chances squandered after needing a last-minute penalty to avoid defeat to Mazatlán.

Tijuana 2-0 Atlas

Los Xolos secured a comfortable victory against Atlas to jump to seventh, giving themselves home advantage in the play-in as Atlas joined Necaxa in the list of teams missing out on a chance of finishing 10th.

Saturday 10th November 2025

Tigres 3-1 San Luis

Tigres briefly climbed to the top of the table despite João Pedro giving the visitors an early lead, as Ángel Correa inspired the comeback. The three points nearly tasted even sweeter, but Los Felinos were denied both a second-half penalty and a late fourth goal after VAR intervention.

Chivas 4-2 Monterrey

Chivas ran rampant, making it nine games without a defeat with a defiant performance against a Monterrey side that has won just once in its last six matches. Regardless, both teams have secured an automatic place in the next round as Chivas take on Cruz Azul and Monterrey face Club América.

León 1-2 Puebla

Puebla were already rubber-stamped to finish last before a ball was kicked but managed to end the season on a high, reducing the gap to one point as James Rodríguez and co. continued their horrid run of 10 games without a running, stretching back to August.

Toluca 2-0 Club América

Toluca returned to the top of the league after three straight draws by continuing to give André Jardine and Club América a severe headache. Goals from Paulinho and Helinho, either side of half time, sealed the points as Las Águilas settle for fourth.

Cruz Azul 2-3 Pumas

Cruz Azul and Pumas took turns to take the lead with the visitors doing so through Jorge Ruvalcaba, whose volley left the crowd stunned before a quick-fire double from Gabriel Fernández turned the game on its head. As the clock ran down, Querétaro watched on, believing they had qualified for the play-in, before goals from Álvaro Angulo and Alan Medina rescued Pumas to send them through to the next round.

Santos Laguna had ambitions of finishing tenth, until Pumas' later winner in the derby, but still kept spirits high Bruno Antoine's goal was the difference between these two.
