Mexican football has lift-off for 2026 with the Liga MX Clausura getting underway this weekend.
The opening round of fixtures had Club América travel to the north to face Tijuana, Tigres face San Luis and reigning champions Toluca rematch their semi-final rivals, Monterrey, at the Estadio BBVA.
Friday 9th January 2026
Mazatlán 1-2 FC Juárez
2026 started with a bang as two of Mexico's northern sides, Mazatlán and Juárez met in a closely contested battle which saw the visitors take the lead twice and hold onto a vital win.
Atlas 1-0 Puebla
Los Rojinegros opened the dreadlock within the first 10 minutes as Uros Djurdjevic scored from the penalty spot, but they counted on their morals by holding onto the narrow lead to ensure opening-day victory.
Tijuana 0-0 Club América
Club América were halted in their tracks on the border with a goalless draw, raising question marks surrounding André Jardine's men's credentials for a title push.

Saturday 10th January 2026
Chivas 2-0 Pachuca
Chivas exploded in the first half, as Armando 'Hormiga' González started his pursuit for a second-straight top goalscorer award whilst Daniel Aguirre doubled the lead in the first half.
León 2-1 Cruz Azul
The big shock of the weekend came at León as the Apertura's 17th place held on to beat the league's second best in their first match post James Rodríguez.
Santos Laguna 1-3 Necaxa
Necaxa recorded a statement win on their road in Torreón with Los Guerreros going down to 10 in the second half after José Abella received a straight red card whislt Julian Carranza found the back of the net from the penalty to score on his Los Rayos debut.
Monterrey 0-1 Toluca
In a heavyweight clash that echoed December’s Liga MX Apertura semi-final, Toluca once again got the better of Monterrey. Despite major changes on both sides, the story remained the same as Helinho scored the only goal of the game with a thunderous effort from range, delivering the decisive blow to torment Los Rayados once more.

Pumas 1-1 Querétaro
Pumas were left disappointed as Adalberto Carrasquilla's first half strike was cancelled out by Mateo Coronel as Los Gallos look to build on a good end to the Apertura.
San Luis 1-2 Tigres
Tigres' first game back after penalty shootout heartbreak in the Apertura ends in victory as a Marcelo Flores double earns maximum points despite a 12th goal in 17 matches for João Pedro for the hosts.
