Mexican soccer fans continue to push younger players to become options for the Mexican National Team, and one of those players is 22-year-old attacking midfielder Brian Gutiérrez.

The Chicago-born player is of Mexican descent and is reportedly interested in representing Mexico instead of the United States.

The Mexican-American attacking midfielder is now attracting interest from Liga MX clubs like Monterrey and Club América, according to Tom Bogert. Chivas showed interest in the player in the past, but their bids were rejected.

Monterrey and América did not submit a bid for Gutiérrez, but bids are expected soon. Wherever he goes in Liga MX, Gutiérrez would be considered a domestic player.

Gutiérrez will become an option to play for the Mexican National Team next year after receiving his Mexican passport.

Why are Liga MX clubs interested in Brian Gutiérrez?

Gutiérrez currently plays for Chicago Fire and recently received his Mexican passport. Gutiérrez is officially eligible to play for the Mexican National Team in 2026, but his season with the Chicago Fire has impressed many.

The Chicago Fire reached the MLS playoffs for the first time since 2017. Chicago Fire finished 8th in the Eastern Conference with 53 points and had a record of 15 wins, eight draws, and 11 losses.

Brian Gutiérrez played 32 matches for Chicago Fire this year in the MLS, where he started in 26 games. He scored 10 goals and provided three assists.

His contract expires in 2028, and Liga MX clubs will need to pay a transfer fee to Chicago Fire to sign Gutiérrez next year.
