FIFA announced the official pots for the 2026 World Cup Draw, where Mexico, Canada, and USA are placed in Pot 1 with the best-ranked national teams.

Mexico will be playing the 2026 World Cup opener at the Estadio Azteca next summer, and it is confirmed that their opponents will be from Pot 3.

FIFA confirmed that Mexico will be placed in Group A and will be assigned as Team A1 in the World Cup draw, which takes place on December 5, 2025.

FIFA announced the 12 teams in Pot 3 that could be the opponents for Mexico's first game in the 2026 World Cup, which is the World Cup opener as well.

FIFA named these 12 teams for Pot 3: Norway, Panama, Egypt, Algeria, Scotland, Paraguay, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.

Out of these 12 teams, Panama is easily ruled out since teams from the same confederation, except for UEFA, cannot play in the same group.

Out of the 11 teams that a possible opponents for Mexico in their World Cup opener, Norway, Egypt, Scotland, and Paraguay appear as the toughest teams.
