The Mexican National Team finished their 2025 with a 2-1 loss to Paraguay. Mexico will continue to play friendly matches ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Mexico is rumored to play a few friendly matches in January to continue their preparation under Javier Aguirre. Mexico will continue to test itself against teams that have qualified for the World Cup, and up next is set to be Portugal and Belgium.
The friendly matches against Portugal and Belgium have yet to be announced by the Mexican football federation, and Gibrán Araige from TUDN reports that one of them will be in the Azteca and the other in the United States.
The next international break for every national team is in March, and the dates for the matches against Portugal and Belgium are set to be a couple of days apart.
Gibrán Araige reports that the friendly match against Portugal will be played at the Estadio Azteca, which would be the reopening of the stadium. The match is set to be scheduled for March 28th, 2026.
Mexico will play against Belgium in the United States, with a stadium yet to be determined. The friendly match against Belgium is set to be on March 31st, 2026.

Portugal and Belgium's qualification to the 2026 World Cup
Portugal and Belgium qualified for the 2026 World Cup during the November international break by topping their respective groups in the UEFA World Cup qualifiers.
Portugal officially qualified for the World Cup after beating Armenia 9-1 at home with goals from Renato Veiga, Goncalo Ramos, and hat-tricks from Joao Neves and Bruno Fernandes. Francisco Conceicao scored the ninth goal of the match.
Belgium qualified after beating Liechtenstein 7-0 at home with goals from Hans Vanaken, Alexis Saelemaekers, Brandon Mechele, and a brace from Charles De Ketelaere.
Both teams will be a bigger test for the teams Mexico has faced at the end of 2025. The last time Mexico played against a European national team was against Turkiye, where the Mexican team won 1-0 with a goal from Orbelin Pineda.
