Nelson Deossa, 25, has agreed to join Real Betis in the topflight of Spanish football.

Signing for the UEFA Europa Conference League runner-up, Deossa leaves Monterrey after just twelve months with the club.

César Luis Merlo reports that Betis submitted a $14 million, potentially rising to $16 million if player-based objectives are met. An offer accepted by Los Rayados.

Deossa is an explosive, box-to-box midfielder who caught global attention for his performances at the FIFA Club World Cup, which helped the Liga MX side reach the Round of 16.

Before joining Monterrey last summer, the Colombian international was a part of the Pachuca side, which won its sixth Concacaf Champions Cup.

Many clubs had been thought to contact Monterrey regarding his services, including Brazilian giants Palmeiras, who themselves lost a Colombian midfield maestro this summer as Richard Ríos joined Portuguese side Benfica for $30 million.

The move helps Real Betis prepare for another season in Europe as the club sets it's sights on challenging for the UEFA Europa League, having made some other eye-catching signings including Rodrigo Riquelme from Atlético Madrid, Napoli's Natan and English Championship winner Junior Firpo from Leeds United.

As for Monterrey, they lose a key player who worked tirelessly at both ends of the pitch days before starting their Leagues Cup charge.
