The Colombian midfielder is at the center of the transfer speculation after his brilliant performance with Los Rayados at the FIFA Club World Cup.

In recent weeks, reports have surfaced suggesting that Monterrey is demanding a fee in the region of $16 million, amid interest from Europe and South America.

Who is Nelson Deossa?

Nelson Deossa, born in 1999, is a Colombian footballer who has become one of the most sought-after players in Mexican football.

He began his professional path in his native Colombia, standing out for his vision, passing ability, and physical presence. His technical development and growing maturity established him as one of Colombia’s most promising young talents abroad. After early stints with Atlético Huila and Envigado FC, he stepped onto the international stage, attracting attention from clubs beyond his homeland.

In 2022, he arrived in Mexico with Club León, gradually earning minutes and showcasing his quality. Later, he solidified his role with Club Pachuca, where he gained more consistency and importance, playing an influential role in Los Tuzos lifting the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.

His final minutes as a Pachuca player were some of his most important, helping the club get over the line to lift a sixth Champions Cup before being targeted by Martín Demichelis to join Monterrey.

Palmeiras Targeting Nelson Deossa

One of the frontrunners to earn the Colombian's signature is Palmeiras, who are looking to replace Richard Ríos after receiving $30 million for his move to Benfica.

Looking to replace one powerful Colombian for another, the Brazilian side has the financial might to match Monterrey's demands. Although they have different playing styles, Brazilian media suggest that Deossa’s technical skills and potential to develop make him the ideal replacement for Ríos.

Real Betis Enter the Race

Spanish club Real Betis has also shown interest in Deossa, having already submitted two formal offers, closer to $10 million. However, both were rejected by Los Rayados.

The Andalusians have resumed negotiations and remain attentive to the player’s situation, although they have yet to meet Monterrey’s financial demands.

What’s Next for the Colombian Midfielder?

Monterrey have maintained their desire to keep Deossa for the new Liga MX campaign, with any potential move at this point damaging their chances to compete for silverware this season. Despite their intent, major clubs like Palmeiras and Real Betis amongst others remain in the race, with one thing for certain that the Colombian’s future looks bright.
