The Champions League playoffs are over all 36 clubs are confirmed for this season. One of the teams confirmed is FC Copenhagen, who defeated FC Basel 1893 2-0 at home. The Danish side won 3-1 on aggregate, with Rodrigo Huescas starting in both games.
This is great news for Mexican fans who want more Mexican players playing at the highest level in Europe. Despite playing in the Danish league, Huescas and FC Copenhagen are set to play top teams in the Champions League.

FC Copenhagen will be in Pot 4, are have many options for opponents. The games and opponents will be announced tomorrow at the Champions League draw.
A player who missed out on playing in the Champions League is Edson Álvarez with Fenerbahçe. The Turkish side fell short as they lost 1-0 on aggregate to Benfica. The Portuguese team defeated Fenerbahçe 1-0 at the Estadio da Luz.
Álvarez did not play in the second leg in Portugal and has yet to debut with the team. Fenerbahçe missing the Champions League is seen as a failure in Turkey, and there are talks of Jose Mourinho potentially being fired. Fenerbahçe will play in the Europa League this season.
The Other Mexican Player in the Champions League
Rodrigo Huescas will not be the only Mexican player in the Champions League this season. The other Mexican player is Alex Padilla from Athletic Bilbao. The Spanish club qualified to the Champions League after finishing 4th in La Liga last season.
Athletic Bilbao are also in Pot 4 and will avoid Spanish teams in the league stage of the Champions League. Some of the top teams Athletic Bilbao could play in the league phase are PSG, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Inter Milan, and Chelsea.
Padilla is not a started with Bilbao but could feature minutes if Unai Simon is inured or drops in form.
