Last night's Toluca vs Monterrey match in the Nemesio Diez delivered arguably the best game of the 2025 Apertura season so far. The Liga MX champions dominated the match against Rayados and defeated them 6-2 at home.

Toluca's football wowed many Liga MX fans as some of the goals included long shots and team play. Paulinho scored a hat-trick while Nico Castro scored a brace. Toluca's first goal came from Jesus Angulo in the 23rd minute, which was the equalizer for Los Diablos Rojos.

The match could've been very different as Monterrey took the lead in the 10th minute with a goal from German Berterame. Rayados were awarded a penalty in the 17th minute, and in the 18th minute, Sergio Ramos stepped up to the penalty.

Ramos is known to be a great penalty kick taker, but this time, his shot would be saved. His penalty was heavily criticized since the former Real Madrid captain attempted a Panenka penalty past Hugo Gonzalez.

The Toluca keeper caught the ball, and Los Diablos Rojos took control of the match after Ramos' penalty miss.

After the game, Toluca's manager, Antonio Mohamed, reveals a funny story on how he predicted that Ramos would attempt a Panenka penalty against his team.

Antonio Mohamed on Sergio Ramos' Missed Penalty

During a post-match press conference, Antonio 'El Turco' Mohamed spoke about how he knew that Sergio Ramos would try a panenka penalty against Hugo Gonzalez.

He reveals that he was unable to sleep the night before the match, which led to him remembering that Ramos likes to take Panenka penalties in the past.

Mohamed used to be the coach of Celta de Vigo in La Liga and remembers when his team faced Real Madrid in La Liga. Ramos scored a Panenka penalty against Mohamed's Celta Vigo, and he advised his Toluca keeper, Gonzalez, to be prepared for that shot.

"Last night I couldn't sleep. I finished watching a movie. It was like 1:30 in the morning or 2. I was on YouTube and I was looking. And I was like, 'I wonder when the last time we [coaching staff] faced Sergio Ramos.' And I started watching Celta Vigo - Real Madrid, and he scored a Panenka penalty on us. I remembered, and in that moment, I said, 'Tell Hugo [Gonzalez] that he [Ramos] will chip him.' Sometimes you have luck, sometimes you don't. It's like I dreamt it, and I knew he was going to chip it."

Can you see Sergio Ramos attempt another Panenka penalty for Monterrey if he is given another penalty kick? Let us know your thoughts.
