Álvaro Fidalgo confirms Club América exit and sends emotional message to fans

After many rumors suggesting his departure from the club, Álvaro Fidalgo has confirmed that he will leave Club América to return to Europe. The Spanish midfielder, who has become a Mexican citizen, spoke in a press conference to confirm his decision.

Fidalgo's contract with Club América expires on June 30, 2026, but he has decided to leave the club as he is set to join Real Betis in Spain.

The midfielder was in attendance in Club América's 2-0 win over Necaxa yesterday. Club América praised the player from the stands as Fidalgo was sat in a stadium box.

Fidalgo revealed that he decided not renew his contract with the club and sent a message to the fans, thanking them.

"It was my decision [to not renew my contract]. It's a personal decision. Time will tell whether I was right or not, if anyone feels disappointed with the decision, I'm really sorry."

Álvaro Fidalgo appeared impacted by the club with his press conference and hints that he wishes to return to the team in the future.

"It's not a goodbye forever. You can feel the affection from the fans. I made mistakes at the club and, even so, the vast majority was still supporting me. I always felt loved."

Fidalgo played three games in the 2026 Clausura with Club América. His last game for América was on January 18, 2026, against Club Pachuca, which finished in a 0-0 draw.

Fidalgo signed shirts on his way out of the Club América facilities, and he is set to travel to Sevilla to join Real Betis in time before the winter transfer window closes tomorrow.
