Monterrey made one of the biggest signings in Liga MX for the 2025 Apertura by bringing former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial. The French striker joins Monterrey after one full season with AEK Athens in Greece.
Monterrey announced Martial as their new player last week, and the French striker has finally arrived in Mexico to join his team after completing a medical for the club. Martial was greeted with fans and journalists at the airport and gave his first words as a Monterrey player.
Martial was asked about what motivated him to join Monterrey in Liga MX, and the striker praised the club. He also mentions that former Sevilla teammates who play in Monterrey were a factor as well.
He is referring to Oliver Torres and Lucas Ocampos at Sevilla, where Martial played for six months on loan from Man United in 2022.
"I know it's a very good club here in Mexico. I saw they have a very good team also with great players. I knew some players, I played with them in Sevilla. I think it was a good challenge for me to come here and I will do everything like to win in the end. "Anthony Martial
Martial states that he is ready to play, and many believe the game against Club América this weekend could mark his Monterrey debut. The French striker mentions having spoken with Monterrey coach Domènec Torrent.
"I already talked with him [Torrent] with the way the team play. I know it's a very good coach so for sure we are going to speak after I will see him here. I'm sure it's going to be good for the football club. I'm very excited to play in this team. I will do everything to win and to make them [fans] happy."Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial Sends Message to André-Pierre Gignac
Upon his arrival, Martial was asked about another French star in the league, André-Pierre Gignac from Tigres UANL. Martial seems to know that Gignac plays for Monterrey's arch rivals in the league and sent a message to the Tigres striker.
Martial mentions that Gignac is a good friend of his and a former teammate in the French national team, but on the pitch, they will be enemies.
