The semifinals of the 2025 Apertura in Liga MX kick off tonight, and the first semifinal match of the night will be Cruz Azul vs Tigres. Both teams advanced to the semifinals after winning at their home stadium in the second leg of the quarterfinals.

Cruz Azul reached the semifinals after beating Chivas 3-2 on Sunday at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario. After a goalless draw in the first leg, Cruz Azul and Chivas had an eventful second leg with multiple goals.
Chivas took the lead in the 8th minute through Cade Cowell, but Gabriel Fernández scored the equalizer for Cruz Azul in the 14th minute. Chivas were leading 2-1 at halftime after Bryan Gonzalez scored Chivas' second goal.
In the second half, Jeremy Márquez scored Cruz Azul's second goal of the night, and then in the last minute, Charly Rodríguez scored the third goal for La Maquina to send them to the semifinals.
After losing 3-0 in the first leg against Tijuana at the Estadio Caliente, Tigres overcame the result in an incredible fashion at home in the second leg.
Tigres defeated Tijuana 5-0 in the second leg with goals from Nicolás Ibánez, a brace from Juan Brunetta, a goal from Jonathan Herrera, and a late goal from Juan Pablo Vigon.
In the regular 2025 Apertura season, Tigres hosted Cruz Azul at the Estadio Universitario on October 4, 2025. Tigres and Cruz Azul drew 1-1, with Juan Brunetta scoring in the 51st minute and Angel Sepulveda in the 98th minute.
