The second semifinal of the night in the 2025 Apertura in Liga MX is between Monterrey and Toluca. Monterrey and Toluca advanced to the semifinals this past weekend, without winning the second leg of their quarterfinal matches.
The first leg will be played at Monterrey's stadium, the Estadio BBVA, and the second leg will be played at Toluca's stadium, the Nemesio Diez.
Toluca finished 1st in the league table while Monterrey finished 5th.
Monterrey advanced to the semifinals by eliminating Club América, beating them 3-2 on aggregate. In the first leg, Monterrey defeated América 2-0 at the Estadio BBVA last week.
In the second leg, América drew the aggregate score to 2-2 after goals from Alex Zendejas in the 30th minute and Jose Raúl Zúñiga in the 59th minute. The 2-0 lead was enough for América to reach the semifinals, but a late goal from Gérman Berterame in the 93rd minute made it 3-2 for Monterrey on aggregate.
Toluca's first leg performance against FC Juárez in the quarterfinals was enough for the reigning champions to advance to another semifinal appearance.
In the first leg, Toluca defeated FC Juárez 2-1 away from home with goals from Antonio Briseño and Paulinho after an early goal from Juárez player Jesus Murillo.
In the second leg, Toluca drew 0-0 against FC Juárez at the Nemesio Diez over the weekend. Toluca had a total of 24 shots and four on target and reached the semifinals by winning 2-1 on aggregate.
Monterrey and Toluca faced each other in the regular season of the 2025 Apertura at the Nemesio Diez. Toluca defeated Monterrey 6-2 at home on September 24, 2025.
Beterame scored for Monterrey in the 10th minute against Toluca, but the reigning champions turned it around quickly. Jesus Angulo, Paulinho, and Nicolas Castro scored three goals in ten minutes during the first half.
Oliver Torres scored Monterrey's second goal in the 39th minute, but a minute later, Paulinho scored Toluca's fourth goal to lead 4-2 at halftime. In the second half, Paulinho completed a hat trick in the 52nd minute, and Castro scored his second in the 62nd minute to make it 6-2.
