Matchday 7 saw the Liga MX Apertura table begin to take shape.
Monterrey, Club América, and Cruz Azul secured crucial victories to maintain breathing room at the top of the table, while Juárez, León, and Pumas also picked up wins to further distance themselves from the teams outside the current Liguilla spots.
At the other end of the table, pressure is mounting on Guadalajara’s representatives, with both Chivas and Atlas dropping points, while questions are beginning to surface around Fernando Gago at Necaxa after their fourth defeat of the campaign.
Friday 29th August 2025: Los Rayados make it six straight wins
San Luis 1-3 Toluca
Reigning champions Toluca ran riot against San Luis. Last season's player of the year, Alexis Vega, grabbed his first goal of the campaign to open the scoring before Román Torres netted into his own net to double the lead for the visitors. Three points were all but guaranteed when Robert Morales scored his third goal of the season before San Luis pulled a goal back through Luis Najera.
Juárez 1-0 Mazatlán
Los Bravos made it three wins in a row with another narrow win. Martin Varini's side recorded back-to-back 2-1 wins against Chivas and Santos Laguna and continued to run as Jairo Estupiñán hit the back of the net from the penalty spot.
Puebla 2-4 Monterrey
Monterrey maintain their place at the top of the league with a sixth straight win, despite going behind against Puebla. Ricardo Martin gave Los Camoteros the lead, finishing a blistering run from Emiliano Gomez but Monterrey responded with two penalties, converted by Sergio Canales and Lucas Ocampos. Extending their lead, Canales took home the match ball, scoring a hat-trick and topped off the performance with a sublime finish from outside the box.

Saturday 30th August: Saint-Maximim on target once more
León 3-0 Querétaro
León made it three games without a defeat, as Los Gallos went down to nine men. The game started with Fernando Beltrán, who scored his first goal since moving from Chivas, as Ismael Diaz bagged a brace to score four goals in as many games.
Santos Laguna 0-1 Tigres
Tigres ended a three-game winless streak with maximum points at the Estadio Corona. Ángel Correa was on hand to score the only goal of the game, but needed to wait as the former Atletico Madrid playmaker missed a penalty earlier in the game.
Chivas 1-2 Cruz Azul
Chivas' barren run goes on as they fall to 16th in the league. Two minutes is all it took before José Paradela gave La Máquina the lead, but Chivas responded ten minutes later through Diego Campillo. Despite getting back in the game, they couldn't hold on as Rodolfo Rotondi restored the visitors' lead, which they were able to hold onto to stay third in the table.
Club América 2-0 Pachuca
Las Águilas made it four straight wins with a comfortable result against a Pachuca side that started the season strongly. Los Tuzos won their opening four games of the Apertura but have since failed to win any of their last three matches. Igor Lichnovsky gave the hosts the lead before Allan Saint-Maximim added to his late winner against Atlas last weekend by rounding Carlos Moreno to tap into an empty net.

Sunday 31st August: Ramsey wins it for Pumas
Pumas 1-0 Atlas
Pumas went 182 minutes without a goal but needed it with a 92nd-minute winner from new signing Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman made his debut last week against Puebla but made his mark in the pouring rain, finding the space in the six-yard box to finish from close range. Ramsey's winner moves Pumas into tenth, but they will be concerned that they have only scored more than two goals twice this season, with the side looking for a new forward to boost their playoff chances.
Tijuana 3-0 Necaxa
Tijuana capped off the weekend with a statement, helped as Necaxa faced two red cards in the game. Ricardo Monreal recieved a straight red within the first 15 minutes before Franck Boya grabbed a brace either side of the break. Chasing the game, Diber Cambindo lost his cool and picked up two yellow cards in the space of 90 seconds before Adonis Preciado added a third for Los Xolos.
