Matchday 11 of the Liga MX Apertura brought together two of Mexico City's giants as Club América played host to Pumas, as league leaders Cruz Azul headed to the border for a meeting with Tijuana.

Monterrey looked to bounce back after conceding six to Toluca with a meeting with Santos Laguna at the Estadio BBVA as Los Rojos Diablos played host to Mazatlán.

The weekend's matches provided the opportunity for there to be a shuffle at the top of the league, all whilst the race for a playoff position begins to heat up.

Juárez 2-0 León

Los Bravos capped off a memorable week with back-to-back wins, having beaten Pumas 3-1 midweek before goals from Óscar Estupiñán and José Rodríguez lifted Juárez into seventh place. Atlas 3-2 Necaxa

Atlas needed a 94th-minute penalty to secure all three points against Necaxa, despite taking the lead twice before to win for only the second time this season. Three points means that they leapfrog their weekend opposition, three points away from a place in the playoffs.

Pachuca 2-1 San Luis

Los Tuzos ended a seven-game winless run with a narrow victory against San Luis. The run seemed set to continue when Sebastián Pérez-Bouquet put the visitors in front, but two goals in five minutes from Enner Valencia and a Juan Sanabria own goal turned the game on its head to send Pachuca into eighth place.

Puebla 0-2 Chivas

Puebla and Chivas were set to face off on Friday night, but torrential rain forced the match to be postponed to Saturday. Once underway, Los Rojiblancos seized control early, striking twice in the opening 12 minutes to set the tone for a crucial win. The result lifted Chivas into ninth place, marking their first appearance in the playoff spots this season.

Monterrey 1-0 Santos Laguna

Lucas Ocampos' first-half winner was the difference between Monterrey and Santos Laguna as Los Rayados bounced back after a last-minute comeback from Club América and a 6-2 midweek loss to Toluca during the week.

Toluca 3-1 Mazatlán

Reigning champions Toluca move into top spot for the first time this season with a comfortable win over Mazatlán. Hector Herrera opened the scoring before receiving a straight red card. Despite being a man down, Toluca continued to control the match as Bruno Méndez doubled the lead before Paulinho added to his midweek hat-trick against Monterrey from the penalty spot.

Club América 4-1 Pumas

Clásico Capitalino was the highlight of matchday 11, with Pumas aiming to bounce back from their Tuesday night loss to Juárez.

In an effort to cause a major shock, Pumas opened the scoring in the first half through Jorge Ruvalcaba, who managed to win the ball deep in the opposition half before dispatching beyond Luís Malagón, but things quickly went downhill for the visitors.

América staged a second-half comeback, drawing level when Álvaro Angulo turned the ball into his own net. José Zúñiga then struck before an Alejandro Zendejas brace sealed a dominant win for Las Águilas over their city rivals.

As Toluca rose to the top of the league, Cruz Azul fell to fourth as Jorge Rodarte's fifth-minute red card shot the visitors in the foot.
