MLS and Liga MX All-Stars went head-to-head this week in a special event bringing together exciting talent from around the world.
The event suffered an early blow when seven-time Ballon D'Or winner Lionel Messi pulled out due to fatigue, as did former Inter Miami teammate Jordi Alba.
Liga MX's finest included captain Sergio Ramos, 16-year-old Gilberto Mora and Tigres Juan Brunetta.
The first big moment of the game came in the 12th minute when Brazilian winger Evander struck from outside the box but was denied by an Luis Malagón, who got down low to push the ball away from goal.
Up the other end, Sergio Canales tested the gloves of Brad Stuver, the 34-year-old goalkeeper representing the city of Austin.
Halfway through the first half, we had our breakthrough as Evander continued to cause issues for the Liga MX backline, lifting a perfectly waited ball into the box and onto the head of Sam Sturridge who had the simple task of nodding the box into the back of the net.
The half ended in favour of the MLS All-Star, but both teams had more to give in the second fourty five.
Liga MX's best ran out to a four-one victory last time out but they found themselves in a sticky situation halfway through the second half when Tal Baribo slotted his effort beyond Kevin Mier, who went in-between the sticks at halftime.
The two-goal deficit didn’t last long, as Mexico’s rising talents Elías Montiel and Gilberto Mora combined brilliantly for their side’s first goal, the Pachuca standout delivering a perfect assist for the 16-year-old to pull the Liga MX team back into the contest.
Chances came and went for Liga MX, most noticeably through Diber Cambindo, who went on an excellent through the MLS defence, but was denied at the last moment.
However, the dagger was placed with ten minutes left on the clock when Diego Luna carried the ball into the opposition half, inviting players to come forward, Liga MX were cut open for Brian White to have the easiest of tap-ins to had the MLS All-Stars the win.
