Toluca continues to have a successful 2025 as they won the Campeones Cup over LA Galaxy last night, 3-2 at the Dignity Health Sports Park. Toluca were behind twice in the match despite having more ball possession and creating more chances.
Toluca were losing 1-0 at halftime after Jesus Gallardo committed a penalty in the 33rd minute after fouling Gabriel Pec. Diego Fagundez scored the opener for LA Galaxy in the 36th minute.
In the second half, Toluca continued to create chances, and in the 53rd minute, Nico Castro scored a goal from distance to equalize. Castro has scored three goals in his last three games for Toluca, and it is the second time he has scored from far in a week.
Toluca kept the pressure on, but LA Galaxy looked threatening on the counter a couple of times. LA Galaxy scored again in the 83rd minute as Pec tapped the ball past Luis Garcia. It all looked like the LA Galaxy were going to win the Campeones Cup, but Toluca did not give up.
Toluca Wins it in the Last-Minute
Toluca equalized in the 88th minute as LA Galaxy attemoted to clear a ball when it feel to Franco Romero. The Argentine midfielder scored past Novak Micovic to make it 2-2. Toluca did not want the match to go straight to penalties as they pushed for a winner, and it arrived.
Following a corner, Helinho crossed the ball in the box from the left side, and the player to tap the ball in the net was Federico Pereira. The Uruguayan defender made the Toluca fans in attendance go wild, and the current Liga MX champions are crowned champions of another title once again.
This is the second time Toluca are crowned champions at the Dignity Health Sports Park this year after winning the Campeón de Campeones trophy over Club América on July 20, where Toluca won 3-1.
