Tom Freeman-Eves

Last week I managed a spectacular 2 correct picks out of 9. Let’s see if I can redeem myself and at least get a few right this week…

Pumas vs Querétaro

A second off week in a row saw Pumas drawing a blank away at Monterrey. As a tough team to break down, this can’t be held against them but they’ll be hoping to rectify this quickly when they host Querétaro.

The visitors will on the other hand will be flying high after their 1 – 1 draw at home to América. Having conceded 4 to León the week before, it’s hard to really place this Querétaro team and how they’ll perform here.  I’m expecting a tight affair but with Pumas coming out on top. Pumas 1 – 0 Querétaro.

Monarcas vs Pachuca

Monarcas are perhaps the most adaptable team in the league as they’ve used four different formations in five games so far. The team looks to be performing well together and flexible enough to move to a shape to really cause their opposition problems.

This could be a real issue for a Pachuca side who’ve struggled to find the net this season, despite a 3 – 0 win at home to Lobos last week. I’m predicting another tight game where Monarcas come out on top. Monarcas 2 – 1 Pachuca.

Puebla vs Atlas

Atlas will have the ball for long periods of the game here which they hope will negate any threat from Puebla. The problem is that I’ve not seen enough from Álvarez, Rivero and co to see where Atlas will create chances of their own. Puebla 0 – 0 Atlas.

Guadalajara vs Necaxa

Chivas have bounced back with a victory over the only other team in the league in a worse position than they are! They’ll be hoping to carry the momentum from the Veracruz win in to this game.

Necaxa will have one eye on Tigres this week as only one point separates the two sides and a top eight spot. With Villalpando and Dávila flying high for the visitors, I think this will be a fairly simple run in. Guadalajara 0 – 2 Necaxa.

León vs América

Coming off the back of a comprehensive battering by Cruz Azul, I worry for León in this one. América have looked like a real force this season and will have their sights set on the title. Even away from home, the likes of Peralta, Uribe and Rodríguez will cause havoc through León’s defensively weak midfield. León 0 – 3 América.

Cruz Azul vs Toluca

A really exciting looking matchup as we see high-flying Cruz Azul take on a solid-looking Toluca outfit. Neither team are used to having the majority of the ball this season, I think we’ll see one of the two looking a little uncomfortable at the prospect of slow build up play rather than breakneck counters. My prediction is that this will be Toluca and they’ll ultimately struggle to break through Cruz Azul. Cruz Azul 1 – 0 Toluca.

Lobos BUAP vs Monterrey

A perfect opportunity for Monterrey to find their form in front of goal. It’s been a little slow start to the season for Pizarro but we’re just waiting for him to catch fire and start tearing teams apart. I think this might just be the game that he does it. Lobos BUAP 0 – 2 Monterrey.

Tigres vs Veracruz

Not much needs to be said on this one, Veracruz have been awful recently and, despite a few struggles recently, I can’t imagine anything short of a comprehensive victory for Tigres. Tigres 3 – 0 Veracruz

Tijuana vs Santos

I’ve been the first to criticise Tijuana’s defensive issues this season but, somehow, they’ve managed to steady the ship at home. The real issue with this Xolos team is in transition and leaving gaps out wide.

Santos have been in exceptional form since the resignation of Siboldi and his staff. They’ve looked especially dangerous on the counter and this will really hurt Tijuana between those transitions. I don’t think that the Estadio Caliente will be enough this week Tijuana 1 – 2 Santos.
